Committee Annual Planning

​WANT TO BE A LEADER? GET INVOLVED AND SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE ASSOCIATION AND THE INDUSTRY. 

OUR AGENT COMMITTEES HELP PLAN, ORGANIZE, SUGGEST, FORMULATE AND BRAINSTORM ON HOW YOUR ASSOCIATION CAN FULFILL THE NEEDS OF IOWA'S INDEPENDENT AGENTS.

What is involved? Each year we have the IIAI Annual Planning meeting where all of our committees meet and brainstorm. This year the committees will meet individually via Zoom at a date to be determined in May. Not only will you provide input which helps your Association do a better job of serving your needs, but you will have a chance to network with other agents during the process. Some of our committees will meet by conference call a time or two during the balance of the year or have one additional meeting in Des Moines.

Our goal is to increase the number of agents serving in 2024. If you have never served, please consider doing so. If you have in the past, we thank you for your leadership and hope you will consider serving again in 2024 and reach out to encourage a fellow agent to attend. This year's meeting date will be determined soon. The ideas developed by the committees will be presented to the IIAI Board of Directors and will be utilized as they update our strategic plan and develop programs over the next 12 months (you serve from May, 2024 to May, 2025). Thanks for your willingness to participate - it is your Big "I" - be a part of it.

Agency Management/Technology Committee - This Committee is responsible for all areas of agency operations including financial management, managerial accounting and tax strategies, mergers and acquisitions, personnel management, employee benefits, internal office management, sales management of producers, and agency automation/ technology issues.  The committee also makes program & speaker suggestions for the Annual Convention.   

Company & Public Relations (Trusted Choice®) Committee - This Committee hosts meetings with insurance companies to review their business plans for Iowa.  These meetings take place at the IIAI office and involve 3 companies a year.  The committee is charged with the responsibility of suggesting programs or services that enhance the image of the local independent insurance agency.  In addition, it may look at potential advertising possibilities for the Association as well as co-op advertising with member agencies and insurance companies and help with the Trusted Choice® program

Education Committee - This committee establishes the education programs for the year and includes such things as a critique of previous programs, suggesting topics and instructors for all technical training seminars and determining any special needs programs.
 
Governmental Affairs Committee & IIAI PAC Committee - This Committee reviews all legislative bills introduced during the legislative session, then suggests policy decisions for each.  The committee also works with IIAI to develop proactive legislation that would be in the members' and consumers' best interests.  Any matter dealing with governmental relations is referred to this committee.
 
Rural Agents Committee - This committee deals with any and all insurance issues facing agriculture clients as well as taking policy positions on any legislation affecting any new federal farm bills on multi-peril crop insurance.  The committee is also responsible for establishing the agenda for the annual Rural Agents Conference and attending the conference, and will recognize and respond to special needs of smaller agencies.
 
Technical & Industry Affairs Committee - This committee deals with the technical aspects of the insurance industry, and industry issues that directly or indirectly affect the operations of member agencies, as well as monitoring ISO, NCCI and other industry group filings.  It monitors ISO, NCCI and other industry group filings, confers with the Iowa Insurance Division on technical issues and prepares technical reports and articles that members can use in their day-to-day operations.

Young Agents Committee - This committee is comprised of young agents aged 40 or younger.  Their responsibilities include reviewing special programs and services (including sales programs for new producers) that will meet the needs of young agents; and to plan the annual Young Agents Conference.  All committee membes are asked to attend the Young Agents Conference.
